2005 Syrah Paradise Road Vineyard
Perhaps one of the most picturesque vineyards we work with, the Syrah from Paradise Road has also become a staff favorite. Located at the foot of the San Rafael mountains, this vineyard sits on a little knoll at the far eastern portion of Santa Barbara County’s growing region. The location is generally a little warmer than many of our other vineyard sites, but also benefits from early morning fog off the Santa Ynez river.
We chose to age this wine in 100% French oak barrels (28% new oak) for 20 months before bottling it on December 17, 2007. The 2005 vintage of Paradise Syrah exhibits fantastic blackberry and plum fruit flavors with the spicy, earthy notes that give a great Syrah its complexity and character.
Though still a full-bodied wine, we think you’ll find a little more balance, acidity and nuance in 2005 due to the more even growing conditions.
